Xavier Volleyball Announces 2017 Schedule

The Musketeers will play 14 matches at home this season
CINCINNATI – Xavier volleyball head coach Christy Pfeffenberger has announced the 2017 fall schedule. The Musketeers will face seven teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament last season.
• The Musketeers open the season against Duquesne at the Bowing Green Tournament on Aug. 25-26. Xavier will also face UIC and the host Falcons at the tournament.
• Xavier will play nine of its first 13 matches of the season on the road. The Musketeers will also travel to Georgia Tech (Sept. 7-8) and Colorado State (Sept. 16) for non-conference tournaments.
• The Musketeers will host their own tournament at Cintas Center on Sept. 1-2. Xavier faces Texas State, Western Michigan and crosstown rival Cincinnati during tournament play.
• Xavier will play three non-conference matches outside of tournament action. The Musketeers open their home schedule on Tuesday, Aug. 29 against Miami (Ohio). Xavier also plays rival Dayton on Oct. 10 at home and travels to Colorado on Sept. 15.
• Xavier faces seven teams that participated in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Seventeen of the Musketeers 23 opponents posted a winning record last year.
• The Musketeers' 23 opponents combined to post a 433-289 record last season with a .600 winning percentage. Xavier's opponents averaged 18.8 wins a year ago.
• Xavier will face teams from 11 different conferences this year, including three MAC foes and two A-10 squads. The Musketeers will also play teams from the Pac-12, Big 12 and ACC.
• Xavier will face four teams for the first time in program history this fall: Texas State, Kansas State, Colorado and Albany.
• Xavier opens BIG EAST play on Sept. 20 against DePaul at Cintas Center. Five of Xavier's first seven conference matches will be played at home.
• Xavier has posted a 51-19 record in BIG EAST play since joining the conference in 2013. The Musketeers have advanced to the conference tournament in all four seasons.
• The BIG EAST Tournament will be hosted by Marquette after being held at Butler in 2016.

• Xavier posted a 20-13 (13-5) record last season under second-year head coach Christy Pfeffenberger. The 20-win campaign was the 21st in program history.
• The Musketeers overall record of 20-13 last year was the programs 19th consecutive season with a .500 or above record.
• Xavier players have earned AVCA All-American honors nine times in the last 12 years. Abbey Bessler earned AVCA All-American honorable mention team honors last year.
• The Musketeers return 11 letterwinners from last year, including nine upperclassmen. Xavier will have four seniors on the team this fall.
• The Musketeers graduated three seniors, including All-BIG EAST First Team selections Abbey Bessler and Sofia Peterson. Both players also earned AVCA East Region First-Team honors.
• Xavier added four newcomers in the offseason in Lauren Hanlon, Nadia Dieudonne, Moriah Hopkins and Maya Krause.
