Women's Golf Sits Tied for Fifth After Day One in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Xavier women's golf carded a solid team score of 292 with a pair of individuals in the top-20 after the first round of the Princess Anne Invitational on Friday.
The Musketeers were led by senior Mikayla Smith and graduate student Lyndsey Hunnell, who both shot a 72 (+2) on the day. Their performances left them in a tie for 18th overall in the tournament. Hunnell ended the day as the leader in Par 3 scoring at 2.67 (-2) and near the top in total pars with 12. Smith is tied for second in Par 5 scoring at 4.75 (-1) and tied for sixth in total birdies with four.
The team carded 57 pars in the first round with all golfers finishing in the low-to-mid 70's.
Mikayla Fitzpatrick was just one stroke behind her teammates after the first round, where she carded a 73 (+3) and finished in a tie for 26th overall. She ended the first round with a total of 13 pars, which was among the day one leaders.
Morgan Tinsley finished out day one with a 75 (+5) and in a tie for 40th overall. She completed the first round with consistent play, sitting even in both Par 3 and Par 5 scoring, and in a tie for second in total pars with 14.
Andie Shukow carded a 76 (+6) in the first round, finishing with nine pars and two birdies on the day. She ended round one in a tie for 48th.
Xavier has two golfers participating as individuals in the invitational, Abby Kiefer and Kayla Benge. Kiefer finished out day one in a tie for 40th overall, she carded a 75 (+5). Kiefer also tied for second in total pars with 14. Benge completed the first round with an 80 (+10) and in a tie for 62nd overall.
