Department's GSR ranks in the top 30 in the country, third in the BIG EAST
CINCINNATI – Xavier Athletics continues to excel in classroom, earning a Graduate Success Rate of 96 in the most recent ratings released by the NCAA on Wednesday, a jump of three percentage points from the previous year.
"Xavier's 96 percent Graduation Success Rate is a testament to the commitment Xavier Athletics has to excellence, on and off the playing field," said Greg Christopher, Xavier University Vice President for Administration and Director of Athletics. "Our student-athletes continue to be outstanding representatives of the University, not only in academics and athletics, but in the community as well, performing over 3,300 hours of community service in the past year. We hope to continue to build on that success as we move forward."
Xavier's overall mark among the top 30 schools in NCAA Division I, ranking in a tie for 29th overall. The mark also rates third among the overall scores of BIG EAST Conference members. The mark is the highest for Xavier since the program-record mark of 97 percent, set in ratings released in 2012 and 2013.
Of Xavier's 18 intercollegiate sports, 17 posted a GSR of 91 or above, including a perfect 100 mark for more than half of Xavier's programs, including men's and women's basketball, women's cross country, women's golf, men's and women's swimming and men's, women's tennis and women's indoor and outdoor track and field
Xavier men's basketball's perfect 100 score matches Creighton and Villanova for the highest in the BIG EAST, and marks the first time the program has posted a perfect mark in the rankings since 2013.
The NCAA developed the Graduation Success Rate formula in 2003, as part of its academic reform initiatives to better measure student-athlete academic success. The NCAA's GSR metric allows student-athletes six years to earn their degrees. This year's rate is based on the average of student-athletes who enrolled in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and also graduated within six years following their enrollment.
