Wood Secures Eighth-Place Finish as Men's Golf Posts Best Round to Finish BIG EAST Championships

CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – Garrett Wood secured an eighth-place finish as Xavier men's golf shot its best round of the tournament on Tuesday at the BIG EAST Championships.
The Musketeers improved by 12 strokes from round two with a final day team score of 300, which ranked fifth in the field. As a result, the Musketeers moved up two spots on the leaderboard to clinch a sixth-place finish in the nine team field.
Wood finished the tournament shooting 73, 75, 75 (223, +7). The freshman earned two birdies on the front, evening his scorecard through nine, and finishing the day 3-over. Wood also led the team with a 3-under mark on par-5's, ranking fourth in the field. He was also second highest in the tournament in total pars, earning 35 of Xavier's 148.
The eighth-place finish capped off an impressive first season for Wood, who was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team ahead of the tournament.
Martin Jaramillo jumped eight places on the leaderboard with six birdies and an even round on the final day. Jaramillo led the team with eight birdies over three days and the freshman finished the tournament shooting 76, 81, 72 (229, +13).
Eduardo Rivera also had his best round of the event, improving 10 spots for a 29th place finish. Rivera ended the day with an even scorecard and completed the tournament shooting an 87, 77, 72 (236, +20).
