Cross Country Opens Season at Queen City Invitational

CINCINNATI – Xavier cross country opens the 2018 season at the Queen City Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. The meet is being hosted by Northern Kentucky University at the Valhalla Cross Country Course.

• The Xavier women's cross country team was ranked 14th in the preseason USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll. The Musketeers finished the 2017 season ranked 14th in the regional poll and was ranked four times during the regular season, ranking as high as 10th in the region twice.
• Xavier returns four of its top seven finishers from the NCAA Regional in Jenna Clayworth, Jennifer Prial, Anna Kostarellis and Jane Onders. Clayworth finished 63rd at the regional, the fifth-highest finish for a freshman at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
• The women's team is looking to win the Queen City Invitational for the first time since 2015. The Xavier women also won the team title in 2013.
• The Xavier men return four of its top five finishers from the BIG EAST Championships in John Hautz, Benjamin Bockoven, Grayson Jenkins and Brady Harless. The Musketeers placed eighth at the championship meet last season.
• The Xavier women placed second at the Queen City Invitational last season, while the men took fourth.
• On the women's side, the Musketeers had two top-10 finishers in Madeline Britton (3rd) and Jenna Clayworth (6th). Britton's time set the school record in the 5K race.
• John Hautz paced the men's team with a 13th place finish. Brady Harless (29th) and Kevin Menyes (30th) were the next two runners to cross the finish line.
• Xavier returns to action at the National Catholic Invitational on Sept. 14 and the Commodore Classic on Sept. 15.
