Women's Golf Finish First Round of Rio Verde Invitational in Third

RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Round one of the RIo Verde Invitational leaves the Musketeers in possession of third place after the team carded a 299 (+15). XU is tied for first in birdies with nine and is one of three teams hitting even or better on Par 5s through the first 18 holes. Xavier landed only two strokes shy of the first round leader.

Lyndsey Hunnell and Andie Shukow placed tied for 11th through the first round, both carded a 74 (+3). Hunnell is tied for first in Par 4 scoring at 4.00 (E) and recorded ten pars along with two birdies. Shukow ended the first day with 11 pars and two birdies.

Mikayla Fitzpatrick sits tied for 16th after the first 18 holes after she carded a 75 (+4). Fitzpatrick is tied for sixth in Par 5 scoring at 4.67 (-1) and leads XU with 3 birdies.

Mikayla Smith carded a 76 (+5) on day one, she ended tied for 31st overall. Smith had nine pars and one birdies through her first 18.

Amy Kucera finished out the first round with a 77 (+6) and tied for 36th overall. She ended day one tied for sixth in Par 5 scoring at 4.67 (-1) and recorded 11 pars with 2 birdies.

Arkansas State carded a 297 (+13) to claim the lead after the first round.
