She will also serve as an assistant coach for the track and field program
CINCINNATI - Xavier head cross country/track and field coach Ryan Orner announced the hiring of Abbie Hetherington as assistant cross country coach. She will also work with the track and field programs.
"I'm excited to add Abbie to my staff this year for both cross country and track," said Orner. "Abbie brings a lot of high level experience to our team and she knows how to win. She'll be helping out with both men's and women's cross country as well as mid through long distance on the track. In addition to her national and international racing experience, I think she'll be an asset when it comes to recruiting from outside the U.S.A."
Hetherington joins the Musketeers after a standout career at Oklahoma State. She was a six-time All-Big 12 selection in three events on the track: 800-meter run, 1,000-meter run and the 1,500-meter run.
Hetherington won a Big 12 Individual Title in 2017, placing first in the 1,000-meter run at the indoor championships. She earned All-American honors in 2018 as a member of the indoor distance medley relay team that placed sixth at the NCAA National Championships. Hetherington also helped the cross country team win the 2015 Big 12 Cross Country Conference Title, while also placing seventh at the NCAA Championships.
The Carlisle, United Kingdom, native, earned a bachelor's degree of science in marketing and entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State in 2018.
