Anna Kostarellis Named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week

The junior runner won the Queen City Invitational on Aug. 31
NEW YORK - Junior Anna Kostarellis was named the BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon. The cross country runner recently won the Queen City Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The Churchville, N.Y., native earns the honors for the first time in her career and is the first Xavier cross country runner to pick up the honors since Sept. 9, 2015.
Kostarellis won the 5K race at the Queen City Invitational in a school-record time of 17:07.80. The previous record was held by Maddie Britton who posted a time of 17:25.90 at the 2017 Queen City Invitational.
The time was also a course record and was nearly 40 seconds faster than the second-place finisher (Shelby Nolan - Wright State - 17:42.90). The win was also the first individual title of her cross country career.
The team title by the Xavier women was the third Queen City Invitational Title in program history. Xavier also won the team title in 2013 and 2015.
Xavier returns to action at the Commodore Classic on Saturday, Sept. 14.
