Swimming Sweeps BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Andrew Martin, Alexis Worrall named Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week
NEW YORK - Following last weekend's meet at Oakland, Xavier swimming swept the BIG EAST Weekly Awards, with Alexis Worrall taking the honor on the women's side and Andrew Martin picking it up on the men's side.
Worrall, a freshman from Victor, N.Y., led the Xavier women with a pair of first place finishes, sweeping the freestyle sprints in the Musketeers dual at Oakland. Her first-place time of 24.09 in the 50 free is the second fastest time in the BIG EAST so far this season, while her winning-time of 52.29 in the 100 free is tied for third fastest in the league so far this season. She also set a personal-best time of 1:52.80 in the 200 free, placing fourth.
Martin, a junior from Middleton, Wis., set the best times this season in the distance freestyle events by a BIG EAST competitor at Oakland over the weekend. Martin took second in the 500 free with a league-best time of 4:37.13, then collected a first place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 9:35.86. Martin also swam the freestyle leg of the 200 medley relay which set a BIG EAST-best time of 1:32.50, swimming a 20.49 split.
Xavier returns to action on Saturday, October 30, traveling to Granville, Ohio to face Denison at 1:00 p.m.
