Meet the Newcomers - Swimming

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming added 13 newcomers for the 2021-22 season. Find out more about the incoming class ahead of the season opening Butler Quad meet on Sunday, September 26 in Fishers, Ind.

Maddie Agans
Agans comes to Xavier from Bridgewater, N.J., where she attended Bridgewater Raritan High School and also had club experience swimming for Greater Somerset County YMCA, Somerset Valley YMCA and Berkeley Aquatic Club.
Agans specializes in IM events as well as the 200 breast. In high school, Agans was a team captain and school record holder for a program that won the state championships 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Agans is a Public Relations major at Xavier. She is the daughter of Christine and Kevin Agans and has a sister, Maya.

Kiara Anchrum
Anchrum is originally from Mason, Ohio, where she attended Mason High School. She also has experience swimming for the Mason Manta Rays.
Anchrum excels in the butterfly, and is coming off a senior season where she finished third at the OHSAA Division I State Championship in the 100 fly with a time of 54.61, competing for a team that finished second.
She has a personal best time of 54.48 in the 100 fly, set at the OHSAA Division 2 State Championships in 2020. She has a personal best time of 2:03.51 in the 200 fly, set in 2020 at the Speedo Souther Premier.

Michael Benington
Benington is a sophomore transfer from Michigan State University. He is originally from Hinsdale, Ill., where he attended Hinsdale Central.
As a freshman at MSU, he swam in the prelims of the 200 IM (1:51.26), 200 back (1:48.73), and 400 IM (4:01.12) at the Big Ten Championships. In high school, he was a three-year varsity letterwinner, earning Team MVP honors his final year. Benington was a B Finalist at the IHSA Championships in the 100 back, 200 IM, and 400 free as a senior.
Benington is the son of Erin and Stuart Benington and has three siblings, Andrew, Margaret, and Patrick.

Molly Dynda
Dynda is originally from Perrysburg, Ohio, and is a graduate of St. Ursula Academy Toledo. She also has experience swimming for the Greater Toledo Aquatic Club and Fort Meigs YMCA Stingrays.
Dynda is a freestyle sprint specialist, coming to Xavier from a program that was four-time Northwest Ohio District Champions during her career. Dynda took the top spot in the 50 and 100 free at the District Championships in both 2020 and 2021, and then capped off her senior season with a seventh place finish at the OHSAA Division I State Championship in the 50 free.
Dynda is majoring in Marketing at Xavier. She is the daughter of Brian and Karen Dynda.

Gage Hannewyk
Hannewyk comes to Xavier from New Carlisle, Ind., where he attended South Bend Saint Joseph and also competed for Irish Aquatics.
Hannewyk excels in free and fly events, and is coming off a summer where he was a two-time finalist at the USA Swimming Futures Championship in Huntsville, finishing second in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 fly.
Hannewyk is also a four-time finalist at the IHSAA Sectional Championships in freestyle sprints, finishing third in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 free for the third place finishing team in 2019. In 2020, he finished second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free on the fourth-place finishing squad.

Adam Lamping
Lamping is originally from Cincinnati, where he swam for St. Xavier High School and Powel Crosley Jr. YMCA. He is a freestyle specialist with a focus on the distance events.
At St. X, Lamping was part of the four-time Ohio Division I state championship winning program, taking a third-place finish in the 500 free in the state championship meet as a senior. The St. X program was also NISCA National Champions three times during Lamping's career.
Lamping is majoring in Sport Management at Xavier. He is the son of Ann and John Lamping.

Caleb Petranchuk
Petranchuk comes to Xavier from Jupiter, Fla., where he attended Jupiter High School. He also competed for the Jupiter Dragons Swim Team.
Petranchuk excels in breaststroke and butterfly events, and is coming off a summer where he was a three-time finalist at the Florida Gold Coast Senior Championships, a long course event, placing third in both the 100 and 200 fly, and fifth in the 100 breast.
Earlier in the spring, Petranchuk was a two-time champion at the Tri-County Swim & Dive Championships, placing first in the 100 fly and 100 breast.

Ethan Saunders
Saunders comes to Xavier from Saline, Mich., where he attended Saline High School. He also has experience swimming with Club Wolverine and the Saline Swim Team. Saunders is a freestyle sprint specialist and will also compete in the 100 breast.
At Saline High School, Saunders earned All-State and All-American honors in each of his four years. He capped off his high school career by being a part of the third-place finishing team at the MHSAA DI State Championships, and collected a state title and set a Michigan Division I record in the 100 free with a time of 44.64.
Saunders is majoring in Exercise Science at Xavier. He is the son of Sean and Tamara Saunders.

Mary Sweetman
Sweetman is originally from Waukee, Iowa, and a graduate of Dowling Catholic. She also competed for the Dowling Catholic Riptide.
Sweetman excels in butterfly and freestyle events, and is a five-time IGHSAU State Championship finalist. As a sophomore in November 2018, she placed eighth at the State Championship for the second-place finishing squad.
The next season, she finished fifth in the 100 free and 200 free for the 2019 State Championship winning squad. As a senior, Sweetman placed third in the 100 free, setting a personal best time of 52.20 during the meet, and placed fifth in the 200 free for the third-place finishing team.

Reese Turner
Turner joins the Musketeers from Springfield, Ohio where she attended Springfield High School and also competed for the Springfield Family YMCA.
Turner excels in freestyle, back and IM events, and is coming off summer where she set personal-best times in the 50 free (28.00), 100 free (1:00.72), 100 back (18.31), 200 back, (2:32.79) and 200 IM (2:37.67) at the Ohio Countryside YMCA Long Course Championships.
During her high school career, Turner was a finalist at the Southwest District Championship in the 50 free, placing fifth in 2019. The same year, she was also a two-time finalist in the Central District Sectionals, winning the 50 free and taking third in the 100 free.

Amy Van Son
Van Son comes to Xavier from Maryville, Tenn., where she attended Maryville High School and also swam for Prime Aquatics. She specializes in backstroke and 200 IM.
In spring 2021, Van Son wrapped up here senior season as a two-time TISCA state finalist, finishing fifth in the 200 free and seventh in the 200 back. She also had three top-20 finishes at the 2021 Southeastern Championship, in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM.
Van Son is majoring in Exercise Science at Xavier. She is the daughter of Karen and Vince Van Son, and has two siblings, Nicholas and Megan.

Nathan Wall
Wall is originally from Cincinnati, where he attended St. Xavier High School, and also swam for the Cincinnati Marlins. Wall specializes in the 200 and 400 IM as well as the 200 breast.
At St. Xavier, Wall was part of a program that won four-straight Ohio Division 1 State Championships and collected three NISCA National Championships. He capped off his high school career as a two-time finalist at the OHSAA State Championships, placing third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM.
Wall is majoring in Marketing at Xavier. He is the son of Jeff and DeAnna Wall.

Alexis Worrall
Worrall joins Xavier from Victor, N.Y. where she graduated from Victor Senior High School, and also competed for Fairport Area Swim Team. Worrall is a freestyle specialist, focusing on the 50, 100 and 200 free for the Musketeers.
At Victor Senior, she a team captain for the two-time sectionals runners-up as a junior and senior. As an individual, Worrall collected the 50 free and 100 free sectional championships as a senior. With her club program, she was a team captain her senior season.
Worrall is a Marketing major at Xavier. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Dale Worrall.
