Xavier Will Host Indiana On Nov. 18 As Part Of The Gavitt Tipoff Games

XU has not hosted IU since 1939.
CINCINNATI – The BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences announced the matchups for the seventh Gavitt Tipoff Games and Xavier will host Indiana on Friday, Nov. 18 at Cintas Center. There are eight men's basketball contests set for Nov. 14-18, 2022. Game times and television network assignments will be announced at a later date.
Xavier, which will be playing in its fifth Gavitt Tipoff Games, is 3-1 in the challenge series. XU, which defeated Ohio State 71-65 on Nov. 18 last season at Cintas Center, has won at Michigan (86-70 on Nov. 20, 2015) and at Wisconsin (80-70 on Nov. 16, 2017) while suffering its only loss to Wisconsin (68-77 on Nov. 13, 2018).
Xavier and Indiana have not met since XU defeated then-No. 8 IU 80-65 in the championship game of the Chicago Challenge on Nov. 24, 2007. In fact, the last three games in the series have been at neutral sites. The Hoosiers won 80-77 in overtime in the 2003 Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis (Nov. 29, 2003) and also as a No. 1 seed in the 1993 NCAA Tournament Second Round in Indianapolis (73-70 on March 21, 1993). IU, which leads the series 8-1, has not played XU in Cincinnati since a 1939 game at Schmidt Fieldhouse (Feb. 3, 1939). The 2007 game is the only one of the last seven meetings that has not been played in Indianapolis or Bloomington.
The Gavitt Tipoff Games is a unique early-season series played between the two conferences and named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST.
