KETTERING, Ohio - Xavier men's golf won the Moraine Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. The two-day tournament was hosted by Miami (Ohio) at Moraine Country Club.
Xavier posted a 54-hole score of 832 (-20), finishing three strokes ahead of Illinois (835, -17). Mizzou finished third (836, -16).
Xavier's score of 832 (-20) is the second-lowest team score (54-hole scoring) in program history. The school record was set on Sept. 14, 2010 at the Marshall Invitational (827, -25).
Freshman Cayse Morgan took home medalist honors in a field of 78 golfers with a 54-hole score of 204 (-9). The Cincinnati native is the first Xavier golfer to hit nine-under-par or lower since Korey Ward in 2012 at the Marshall Invite (204, -9).
Morgan finished two strokes ahead of five golfers who finished tied for second with scores of 206 (-7), including teammate Ray Filter.
The individual title for Morgan is the first of his collegiate career. Filter now has seven career top-10 finishes.
The Musketeers have now posted three tournament titles over the last two seasons. Xavier has also posted six, top-three finishes over the last two seasons.
