Cayse Morgan was also named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year on Tuesday
NEW YORK - Brian Arlinghaus was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year on Wednesday, while Cayse Morgan took home both Freshman of the Year and Golfer of the Year honors. The NCAA's Scoreboard Collegiate Rankings were used to determine the individual winners and All-BIG EAST First and Second Teams.
Arlinghaus earns Coach of the Year honors for the first time in his coaching career (was the head coach at Wright State from 2017-21). He becomes the first Xavier men's golf coach to earn the honors since Doug Steiner in 2001.
Morgan is the first BIG EAST men's golfer since 2018 - and only the third player in conference history - to earn both major conference awards in the same season. Morgan is the first Musketeer to earn Freshman of the Year honors since Daniel Wetterich in 2016. He is also the first Musketeer to be named Golfer of the Year since Herbert Day in 2011.
Arlinghaus led the Musketeers to a BIG EAST Championship on May 4, the program's ninth conference championship and first title since 2005.
Morgan hit eight-under-par 64 in the final round on of the BIG EAST Championships on May 4, tied for the lowest single round score in tournament history. His 54-hole score of 202 (-14) was also tied for the lowest 54-hole score in tournament history (he tied Louisville's Derek Fathauer who hit 14-under in 2006).
Morgan became the first Xavier golfer to earn medalist honors at the BIG EAST Championships since Garrett Wood in 2019. The Cincinnati native was the ninth Xavier golfer to earn medalist honors at a conference championship since 1998. Morgan was the first freshman to earn medalist honors at the BIG EAST Championships since Marquette's Hunter Eichhorn in 2018.
Xavier returns to action at the NCAA Corvallis Regional May 18-20 at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
The low five teams and low individual from each region will qualify for a spot in the championship finals. Thirty teams and six individuals in total will compete in the finals on May 29 - June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
