CHAMPIONS CENTER |
Commitment to the student is a hallmark of Xavier University. Xavier Athletics is no exception, and facility and programming commitments over the last two years are improving our student-athletes’ collective experience. In the Cintas Center, the new academic center, strength and conditioning area, and sport medicine area have addressed significant shortcomings. The department’s focus on areas like leadership development, along with mental health and nutrition education are part of an overall effort to support every aspect of our 300 student-athletes’ lives.
Now, with the coming Health United Building, Xavier has the opportunity to make a transformative change to improve its Olympic sports.
The Schmidt/O’Connor transition will change the landscape for Xavier’s Olympic sports. The relocation of Xavier’s Olympic sports to a newly renovated, state-of-the art “Olympic Village” will transform the experience for 60 percent of Xavier’s student-athletes and nearly half of the department’s staff and coaches. Specific examples include:
- Locker rooms for all student-athletes.
- A renovated pool dedicated for competitive use by Xavier’s varsity teams and area clubs.
- Ancillary space for strength and athletic training, so support areas can be paired with locker rooms, training and practice spaces.
- Adequate office space for Xavier’s Olympic sport coaches, including recruiting areas that represent Xavier in a first-class manner.
- The creation of space for sport-specific training, so Xavier’s teams no longer need to leave Xavier to travel to places like Ignition in Mason for training.
