Jeremy Growe, who was promoted this summer to Special Assistant to the Head Coach, is in his 10th year on the Musketeer basketball staff.
“Jeremy knows our program and really knows the game,” said head coach Travis Steele. “I thought over the last few years Jeremy has had the third-biggest voice of our program from an Xs and Os standpoint. Obviously, he cannot coach on the floor per NCAA rules, but I am talking about game plan, what do we need to do offensively/defensively. He knows our defensive and offensive system like the back of his hand. Jeremy is around our players every day. Our job is to help develop these young men into responsible men by the time they get a little bit older. Jeremy does a great job at that, finding different ways to develop their character whether that is through community service or other parts of our Fortune 15 program.”
Growe assumed the role of Director of Men’s Basketball Operations in 2011 after spending the previous two seasons as a graduate program assistant. As Director of Basketball Operations, Growe’s responsibilities included acting as the liaison between the basketball staff and the academic side of campus, internal scheduling, summer basketball camp and assisting in video analysis.
During Growe’s nine years with the program, Xavier has compiled a 215-97 record. Xavier also won the 2018 BIG EAST Regular Season Championship, two Regular Season Atlantic 10 Conference Championships and played in eight NCAA Tournaments, including an Elite Eight and three Sweet 16 appearances. While serving as a graduate program assistant Growe participated in video scouting, assisted the coaching staff on the floor during skill instruction and practice, participated in tracking the academic progress of the men’s basketball student athletes, helped organize on campus recruiting efforts and executed the film exchange program. While working with the men’s basketball team Growe also completed his master’s degree from Xavier University in sport administration in 2011.
Growe came to Xavier after graduating from Indiana University in 2009 with a degree in sport marketing and management. During his time at Indiana, Growe spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons as a student manager. His duties included assisting the coaching staff on the floor during practices, assisting the coaching staff with video scouting, managing the operations of summer camp and participating in day-to-day operations with the team. During Growe’s time the Hoosiers went 46-19 including back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.
Growe also spent the summers of 2008 and 2009 working with the Indiana Elite AAU program. During his time with Indiana Elite Growe participated in on the floor coaching of players during games and practices, recruited players to the program and handled administrative tasks for the team. Growe coached multiple Division I players during his time with the program.
Growe, a native of St. Louis, Mo., and his wife, Samantha, have a one-year-old son, Jonah.
