Molly Bateman was hired in August of 2020 as assistant athletic director for women's basketball. She was promoted to assistant coach in June of 2021 and later promoted to assistant coach/recruiting coordinator in August of 2022.
Xavier finished the 2021-22 season with a .746 free-throw percentage, ranking third in single-season program history. The Musketeers also finished the year with 89 blocks to rank ninth in single-season program history.
Individually, Ayanna Townsend finished her career with 80 blocks to rank seventh all-time in program history. She was also tabbed the 2021-22 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Musketeer to earn the academic honors.
Bateman served as an assistant coach at Detroit Mercy from 2015-20 before adding the title of recruiting coordinator for her last two seasons on the bench. She assisted in coaching five players to all-conference honors and helped the program establish two single-season school records. Bateman also helped the team advance to the Horizon League Championships game in 2017 before falling to nationally ranked Green Bay.
In March of 2019, Bateman was recognized as one of the top-30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches nationally with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30.
At Detroit, she helped coach Sylare Starks to Horizon League All-Freshman Team honors - becoming on the third player to earn the honors - after leading the conference's freshmen in scoring (10.1 ppg) in 2019-20. Starks also ranked seventh in the conference in three-pointers made (50), the third most in program history by a freshman.
Bateman also coached Zoey Oatis for four seasons at Detroit. Oatis led the Titans in steals in her final three seasons, finishing her career with 120 steals. 120 steals in her Titan career.
She also coached Anja Marinkovic to Horizon League All-Freshman Team honors in 2016-17. The guard made over 100 three pointers in her first two seasons with the program.
Bateman also helped coach Nicole Urbanick who finished the 2015-16 season with 2.77 three-pointers made per game, ranking first in the Horizon League and 19th in the NCAA. The guard posted 83 three pointers in 2015-16.
Bateman helped coach Nicole Urbanick, Haleigh Ristovski and Rosanna Reynolds who all surpassed 100 3-pointers for their careers.
The Titans, who primarily played the 2015-16 campaign with eight players, broke the school record for three-pointers made in a season (234) and set a new program mark in free-throw percentage (.738). Detroit Mercy also led the Horizon League (conference only games) in field-goal percentage and three-point field-goal percentage. The Titans then broke the mark for three-pointers made (259) in a season again the following year in 2016-17.
Bateman also has previous coaching stops at Mount Union (2013-15) and Averett University (2011-13).
The New Weston, Ohio, native played at Defiance College from 2007-11, earning all-conference honors as a senior. She also earned the Defiance College Female Sportsmanship Award in 2011.
Bateman holds a bachelor's degree in social work from Defiance College (2011) and a master's in business administration from Averett University (2013).
