Lauren Clary had one of the most remarkable careers in Xavier Women’s Tennis program history, piling up many awards and honors during her career. She was the third person ever to be honored as the Atlantic 10 Performer of the Year and Rookie Performer of the Year while also being honored twice as Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. All four years she was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team. Clary was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete of the Year three straight years during her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, becoming only the second person to do that. She was twice named Atlantic Performer of the Week. Some of her biggest awards included the Atlantic 10 Conference Sporting Award, a nomination to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team, the 2005 NCAA Sportsmanship Award (given to just two athletes in the nation), and she was also the recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Â
She ended her Xavier career as the all-time leader in singles and doubles wins with career records of 115-25 (.821) and 103-27 (.792), respectively. She recorded a team-high 26 singles wins, a mark now tied for eighth most in program history, and the best doubles record on the team, 25-4 during her sophomore season. She led the Musketeers in singles and doubles wins with records of 29-5 and 25-7, respectively, and was 27-1 in singles action when winning the first set during her junior season. She posted a 31-5 singles record including a 19-4 mark at No. 1 in dual matches and teamed up with Stephanie Bauer for a 30-8 record in doubles including a record of 18-5 in dual matches at No. 1 during her senior season.
Â
She accomplished this while achieving a 4.0 GPA in four out of her eight semesters at Xavier as a psychology major. This academic achievement earned Clary a spot on the District IV All-Academic Team during her junior and senior seasons. Clary was also named the Atlantic 10 Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year during her final season at XU and honored as an ITA Scholar-Athlete during her junior year.
