In the period from 1981-85, the women's basketball program enjoyed some hard earned success, and Stacey Land was one of the Musketeers' most productive players. In this time, the teams had an overall combined mark of 46-68. Xavier won the Ohio AIAW State Championship with a record of 20-14, ending up fourth in the region in AIAW, Division II. The next season, the Musketeers joined the newly-formed North Star Conference, and continued to flourish at that level.

During her freshman season, Land's gritty determination earned her the pivotal "sixth man" position as Xavier won the OAIAW title. She played in all 34 games, and scored 248 points while being fourth on the squad in rebounds with 135.

In Land's second season, the talented sophomore was third on the team in scoring with 299 points for an 11.5 ppg. average. She grabbed 137 boards for a 5.3 rpg. mark as the squad went 13-13, which included big wins over Akron and Evansville.

In her junior year, Land scored 358 points, for an average of 13.8 ppg., while grabbing 122 caroms, for a mark of 4.7 rpg. Both marks led the Musketeer underclassmen as the team finished the 1983-84 season with a 10-16 ledger. Land enjoyed an excellent game at Eastern Kentucky, connecting on 15-20 field shots en route to a game high 30 points to go with six rebounds.

For her senior season, all Land did was lead the team in scoring (21.0 ppg.), rebounding (8.2 rpg.), steals (75), and minutes played (892). The competitive and aggressive co-captain was ranked in the top 25 in NCAA Division I for scoring. Land, who hails from Naperville, Illinois, exploded for a career high 38 points in a "homecoming" effort at DePaul. She added 32 points and 13 rebounds in a 75-69 win at Butler. Land, who was on squads that set seven school marks, is the number 11th all-time Musketeer scoring leader with 1,494 points. She is also the number ten all-time rebounder with 624 boards. She is ranked fifth for most points in a season with 588 (1984-85), and second in single-season scoring average season (21.0 ppg.).

Land's scoring totals are even more impressive when you consider that she played with two of the top eight scorers in Musketeer history (XU Hall of Famer Jo Ann Osterkamp Henderson with 2,036 and Judy Smith with 1,376). Land still holds the records for most field goal attempts in a season (515), most free throw attempts in a season (194), and second most free throws made in a season (134). Her total of 75 steals (1984-85) stood as a school record until Sheryl Krmpotich broke it during the 1990-91 season.

Land graduated from Xavier in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in marketing, but will be in the annals of women's basketball history as one of the best and toughest Xavier players to ever step onto the court.
