Ted Shalloe started all four years at second base, and led the team all four seasons in several statistical categories. A quick check of the record books give you part of the picture of Shalloe's value to the Musketeers.
Shalloe still holds two major career XU records: runs scored (211) and stolen bases (134). He also holds lofty positions in three other career XU categories: hits (fifth with 236), triples (second with 16), and at bats (eighth with 692).
Shalloe also holds two single season XU records: runs scored (63 in 1985), triples (6 in 1984). Shalloe also ranks with his top single season efforts in home runs (tied for 12th with 12 in 1985), stolen bases (second with 47 in 1984), and at bats (tied for second with 230 in 1985).
There are two categories in particular that point out Shalloe's ability to manufacture runs. He has produced two of the top three single-season run totals in XU history and owns two of the top three single season stolen base totals.
For his collegiate career, Shalloe posted remarkable numbers. As a senior, he batted .352 for the season while being named Co-MCC Player-of-the-Year with Pat Heck of Evansville. He played in every game his senior season, and was a major factor in the Musketeers 30-29-1 mark. He helped Xavier advance to the championship series of the MCC. XU was five outs from an NCAA berth, before they lost a 14-7 decision to Oral Roberts, and the championship game to ORU by a 6-2 score.
As a junior, Shalloe let the league know just how well he could play. He batted an amazing .367, good for fifth in the MCC, while leading the conference in stolen bases with 47. He was named to the 1984 All-MCC Tournament Team for second base, and was named to the MCC All-Conference First Team as a utility player.
In the years he played, the Musketeers won two MCC Northern Division titles, while finishing second once. His teams went a combined 105-91-1 while going 25-17 in the MCC. He will go down in the Xavier annals as arguably the best second baseman to ever put on a Xavier uniform.
