Schlosser, a 5'11", 170-pound shortstop/second baseman, is in his third year of varsity baseball at Oconomowoc High School. As a junior, Schlosser earned several awards for his outstanding play. In addition to being named a First Team All-Wisconsin Little Ten Conference Infielder, he also garnered Second Team All-District Infielder honors as well as Second Team Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area Infielder honors.
Xavier Head Coach John Morrey looks forward to working with his new signee. "James is a solid defensive middle infielder who projects to hit well early in his career. We feel like he can compete for playing time as a freshman," said Morrey.
Schlosser posted some impressive numbers in his junior campaign at Oconomowoc High. He batted .507 with 38 hits (75 at bats) and 25 RBI. All three were team highs. Schlosser was also team MVP after leading his squad to a Sectional Championship. His accomplishments in 2000 led to several preseason accolades for 2001. Schlosser was voted team captain and was selected a preseason All-State honoree.
"James is an outstanding young man. He's a great leader and an outstanding student of the game. I look to him as almost like an assistant coach. He is a highly skilled infielder and Xavier is lucky to have him," said Schlosser's high school coach Pat Neary.
Schlosser, a two-sport athlete, earned Special Teams Player of the Year honors in football during his sophomore campaign. As a junior, he was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as a defensive back.
In addition to Schlosser's athletic gifts, he is also an exceptional student. Not only is he a member of the National Honor Society, but he also has been named a Scholar Athlete for four straight years. In both 1999 and 2000, Schlosser was honored on the list of Who's Who Among High School Students.
Schlosser will start classes at Xavier in the Fall of 2001.
