Marr Leads Xavier in NCAA Second Round

The Musketeers slipped four places as a team during the second round. Xavier enters Saturday?s final round at 20-over par 596 after shooting a 15-over par 303 on Friday. XU will tee off on No. 10 at 11:51 a.m. for the final 18 on Saturday.
Marr encountered plenty of trouble during his round, but fought through it to finish with a 74. On the ninth hole of the day (No. 18), his tee shot found it?s way between two trees and rested against the roots. Unable to take relief, Marr punched the shot out and escaped with a bogey.
On No. 8, the 17th hole of the day, Marr?s second shot went into a trap short of the hole, and well below the green. He needed a great shot out of the sand to get up and down with a birdie.
Tim Smith (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) rebounded from a difficult first round to shoot Xavier?s best round of the day with a 1-over 73, bringing his two-day total to 154.
Tim Donovan (Cincinnati/St. Xavier) and Matt Makinson (Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial Secondary) have both posted two-day totals of 151. Donovan struggled with an 80 on Friday, and Makinson shot a 4-over 76 in the second round. Bryon Harger (Marion, Ohio/River Valley) shot an 83 on Friday for a 156 overall.
Xavier will be paired with Richmond, which will join the Atlantic 10 next season, and Georgia State. The top 10 teams in the East Region will advance to the NCAA Championships in Durham, N.C. at the end of the month.
