Two Xavier Athletes Earn Academic Honors

Last year, Kane was named to the national Verizon Academic All-America Second Team. She graduated with a 3.91 grade point average while double-majoring in International Affair and Spanish.
Kane is the first member in the history of the Xavier rifle program to earn eight NRA All-American honors during her career as a shooter. She is a four-time smallbore All-American and a four-time air rifle All-American.
This past year, Kane was named the Great American Rifle Conference Most Outstanding Senior and Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Xavier placed second in the NCAA Championships this past March. During each season of her career, the Musketeers have finished in the top four at the NCAA Rifle Championships.
Three other Xavier athletes earned Verizon Academic All-American District Team honors (tennis player Lauren Clary and cross country runners Chris Tieke and Jennie Illig).
A double-major in physics and math, Wiggers carried a 3.89 grade point average.
This season, Wiggers appeared in 17 games, and made 10 starts. He tossed two shutouts while working a complete game six times. He compiled a record of 4-6 while holding a 3.50 earned run average. He struck out 58 and walked 18 in 74.2 innings pitched as a senior.
Wiggers ends his career second all-time at Xavier in starts (50), innings (323.2) and strikeouts (240) while ranking third in appearances (74) and complete games (18). His 18 wins are fifth in school history.
This year 134 of Xavier's 220 student-athletes held a GPA of 3.0 or better, earning them the distinction of a spot on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
