Xavier Rifle Suffers First Loss of Season at Jacksonville State

The Xavier University rifle team dropped a dual match to Jacksonville State on Saturday in Jacksonville, Ala. In its second match of the 2004-05 campaign, Xavier fired a combined score of 4606, falling short of the 4667 fired by Jacksonville State.

The Musketeers shot a smallbore score of 2313 and a 2293 in air rifle. Jacksonville State scored a 2326 in smallbore and managed a 2341 in air rifle.

Leading the way for the Musketeers in smallbore was three-time All-American Hannah Kerr whose score of 586 was the second highest of the day. Rich Gauvin’s score of 579 was the second best for the Musketeers.

Junior Brandon Czekaj enjoyed a solid outing, registering XU’s highest air rifle total with a score of 578. All-American Brian Watson recorded an air rifle score of 577 for the Musketeers.

The Musketeers are back in action on Saturday, October 30 when they play host to Tennessee Martin at the Walsh Rifle Range. The first shots are set to be fired at 9:00 a.m.
