Lauren Clary Honored as Student-Athlete of the Year
04.29.04 | Women's Tennis
This marks the first time since the 1996-97 season that one team has placed three members on the Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team when Virginia Tech accomplished the feat.
Lauren Clary, a junior from Terre Haute’s South High School, totaled a 27-5 record in singles and 22-6 in doubles playing at the top positions. Clary holds a 3.88 grade point average in psychology and was also named to the Conference’s All-Conference Team for the third consecutive year on Wednesday.
Junior Stephanie Bauer was also honored by the Conference for her 3.74 grade point average in elementary education. Bauer posted a 21-8 singles record and was 23-7 with Lauren Clary at first doubles. The junior is also a two-time member of the All-Conference Team.
Kristen Clary was the third member of XU’s team honored by the Conference for her academic prowess. Clary, who holds a perfect 4.0 g.p.a. in accounting, played primarily at third singles and second doubles where she posted records of 28-7 and 24-6, respectively.
The Musketeers (21-4) finished second at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championships for the second time in the last three years. XU’s 21 wins are the most in the program’s 31-year history under Head Coach Jim Brockhoff.
