CINCINNATI --- The Xavier Musketeer women's soccer team scored an exciting 2-1 come-from-behind overtime win over the visiting Richmond Spiders on Sunday afternoon at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. Xavier raised its records to 7-6-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while Richmond fell to 4-8-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the Atlantic 10.
Richmond scored the lone goal of the first half as freshman Jessie Wolf drilled a free kick from 40 yards out at the 19:43 mark that hit the crossbar and bounced into the goal. The Spiders took the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Spiders held Xavier scoreless for almost 82 minutes before XU finally found the net at 81:56. Senior Shawn Reynolds took a throw in from senior Kristen Ruehlmann and passed it to senior Angie Scarlato, who put a header into the corner of the net. The two teams ended regulation tied 1-1.
The Musketeers wasted little time scoring the game-winner in overtime. Freshman Sara Doutt punched a shot just inside the right post as she was falling to the ground just 5:05 into the first overtime period. Freshman Christine Chuck passed the ball to senior Angie Scarlato, who set up Doutt for the game-winning goal.
Xavier hits the road next weekend for its final pair of Atlantic 10 Conference regular season matches. XU plays at Fordham on Friday and at St. Bonaventure next Sunday.
