Xavier Falls To Host Indiana At The Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, IN --- The Xavier University women's soccer team fell behind 2-0 early and never recovered in falling to host Indiana University 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Hoosier Classic. Xavier fell to 2-4 with the loss, while Indiana raised its record to 2-3-1.
Indiana scored first in this one as Xavier freshman goalkeeper Ashley Donaldson stopped a shot but dropped the ball in front of the goal. IU's Kristen Zmijewski was there to clean up at the 19:23 mark. IU led 1-0.
The Hoosiers went up 2-0 at 26:13 into the first half as Kristin Radcliffe took an assist from Carrie DeFreece and punched it over the XU goalie from about 10 yards out.
Xavier senior Angie Scarlato cut the Indiana lead in half when she out-fought an IU player for the ball and quickly drilled a shot from 15 yards out, past the IU goalie, and in the right side of the net. Indiana took the 2-1 lead into halftime.
Indiana extended its lead back to two goals at 3-1 when Katy Stewart found the back of the net at the 51:49 mark with the help of assists from Molly Beckwith and Ashley Seib.
Xavier placed two players on the All-Hoosier Classic Team: senior Angie Scarlato and freshman Christine Chuck.
Sunday's game was the final of four straight road matches. Xavier returns home next Sunday, September 18 to host Louisville at 1:00 p.m
