Women's Track Competes at BGSU Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Freshman Becky Clark and junior Kelly Sraj each turned in a top five finish on Friday as the Xavier University women's track team recorded a fifth place finish at the BGSU Invitational hosted by the Falcons at Perry Field House on the Bowling Green campus. The Musketeers totaled 25 points while competing in just seven of the 16 events, Ball State finished atop the six-team field with a total of 226 points.
Xavier set four new school records at the Invitational including two from Clark. The freshman broke her own school record in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:11.24, Clark also broke Kristin Hoff's school-record time of 2:22.45 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.36 in the 800-meter run. Clark finished third in the 1600 and sixth in the 800.
In the 3000-meter run, Sraj recorded a time of 10:31.40, which was over a 12-second improvement from last week, en route to a third-place finish. The time of 10:31.40 was 10 seconds better than the school record time established by junior Megan Uhl at the Ohio Outdoor Invitational in April 2005.
Senior Heather Stafford led XU in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:17.03 and freshman Danna Deans earned two points for Xavier in the 600-meter run as she finished seventh at 1:47.70. In addition to her finish in the 600, Deans established a new school record in the long jump at 16'1 1/2.
The Xavier men's and women's track teams will return to action Saturday, Jan. 28 when the Musketeers will travel to Columbus to compete in the Ohio State Invitational.
