Xavier Drops Contest to Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Xavier suffered a 9-1 setback at the hands of host Kansas State on Saturday afternoon at Tointon Stadium. The Musketeers were outhit in the contest 12-3 and XU could not produce any extra base hits on the afternoon. Xavier is now 5-9 on the season, while Kansas State improves to 11-1 on the year.
The seven, eight and nine batters in the Musketeer lineup were the only hitters to record a hit in the contest. After posting a 3-for-3 day yesterday, Matt Waskerwitz ended the game 1-for-2 at the plate with Xavier's only RBI in the game, while freshman Neil Lindgren and sophomore Collin Salzenstein each were 1-for-3 on the day. Dan Hayden scored XU's only run of the contest after Waskerwitz notched his single in the top of the second inning to give the Musketeers the 1-0 advantage before KSU scored nine unanswered runs.
Sophomore Michael Lucas was solid in his performance on the hill as he allowed only four runs on eight hits and two strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm at Tointon Stadium.
