CINCINNATI - Xavier rallied from two down in the bottom of the sixth inning to knot the score at 2-2 but could not keep the momentum on its side as visiting Youngstown State crossed two runs in the top of the seventh to take the contest 4-2. The Musketeers are now 5-13 on the season, while the Penguins improve to 5-9 overall.
After answering with two runs in the sixth to knot the score at 2-2 with a squeeze bunt by freshman Neil Lindgren, Xavier could not keep the momentum and surrendered two runs in the top of the seventh to the Penguins, which proved to be the deciding runs in the contest. YSU again outhit the Musketeers by an 11-7 count and committed one more error than the home squad.
Robbie Kelley led the Musketeer offense on the afternoon as the sophomore finished 3-for-4 with a double and he drove in XU's first run of contest. Sean Brewer finished 2-for-5 at the plate with two singles and Adam Lipski was 1-for-3 on the afternoon with a run scored. Junior Matt Waskerwitz saw his eight-game hitting streak come to an end as he ended the day 0-for-1 with two walks and a run scored.
The two teams will wrap up the three game series tomorrow afternoon at Hayden Field. Game time is set for 1:00 pm and junior Dan Graham will take the mound for XU.
