Three Musketeers Earn All-Atlantic 10 Conference Honors

PHILADELPHIA - Senior forward Brian Thornton has been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team along with earning the A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year Award for the second consecutive year. Sophomore guard Stanley Burrell was named to the Second Team while junior forward Justin Cage earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team for a second straight year.
Before being sidelined during the La Salle game, Thornton led the team in scoring (15.3 ppg.), rebounding (6.8 rpg., incuding a career-high tying 12 versus Dayton), field goal percentage (first in the A-10 and top ten in the nation at 64.0 percent), and blocked shots (2.1 bpg., including a career-high five in the win over Dayton). Thornton scored a career-high 27 points on a career-high 11 field goals out of a career-high 13 attempts in the win over Troy on December 22. Thornton had 10 "double-doubles" in his Xavier career, including five games this season and five games last year.
Burrell leads the team in scoring at 14.3 ppg. and has scored in double figures in 24 of the last 26 games, including 20 or more points seven times. Burrell is also the team assist leader at 3.2 apg., including a team-high five assists with one turnover at URI and a career-high tying six versus Saint Joseph's.
Cage has been named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Defensive Team by the coaches for a second straight year. Cage has also increased his offensive numbers lately. In the six games XU has played since the injury to star forward Brian Thornton, Cage has averaged 13.8 ppg. and 7.3 rpg., while shooting 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the field and 88.9 percent (32-of-36) from the free-throw line.
