CINCINNATI - Freshman Neil Lindgren blasted the first two home runs of his career but it was not enough to help Xavier get past visiting Fordham in Atlantic 10 action on Saturday. Due to weather, the two teams played two nine-inning games this afternoon at Hayden Field but the Musketeers could not capitalize on the home field advantage and fell to the Rams 8-3 in game one and 4-1 in game two. With the losses, XU drops to 8-18 overall and now stand at 1-3 in A-10 play, while Fordham improves to 11-14 and 4-0 in conference action.
Lindgren ended his afternoon 2-for-6 at the plate with his first two home runs of his career. He also notched three RBIs and scored two of Xavier's four runs on the day. Sean Brewer started the first game 0-for-4 but rallied in the second game to finish 2-for-3 at the plate and earned two of the four XU hits in the second contest. Adam Lipski, Jordan Wolf, Drew Roberts and Collin Salzenstein were the only other Musketeers to record a hit on the day.
Xavier's Mike Creevy suffered the loss in the first game of the day as he gave up all eight runs on seven hits in his four innings of work with three strikeouts. Bill Konecny came in to provide 4.2 innings of solid relief as the junior only gave up four hits in his shutout effort over the four plus innings. In the second game, sophomore Michael Lucas got the loss after giving up only four runs on seven hits with four fans in eight innings of work.
The two teams will take the field again tomorrow afternoon. The first pitch is slated for 12:00 pm at Hayden Field. Xavier's Dan Graham will get the nod on the hill.
