Musketeers fall at Miami 8-0

OXFORD, Ohio - In non-conference action, Xavier fell to host Miami University, 8-0, on Tuesday afternoon at McKie Field at Hayden Park. The Musketeers were outhit in the contest 11-6 and could not overcome eight strikeouts in the game. With the loss, XU drops to 10-23 on the season, while Miami improves to 14-15 overall.
The RedHawks got on the board first as MU posted six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the second inning. The inning was aided by a walk and a hit batter and put the score at 6-0 after two complete innings. Miami would tack on one more in the bottom of the third and another in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 8-0.
The Musketeers threatened in the top of the first as XU loaded the bases with only one out but the RedHawks snuffed out the rally with two strikeouts to end the inning.
Dan Hayden led the way at the plate for the Musketeers as the junior finished 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk. Neil Lindgren, Adam Lipski, Chris Lozan and Nick Egloff recorded the other Musketeer hits in the game.
Junior Bill Konecny took the loss on the mound as he allowed six runs in one inning pitched with one walk. Mark Janszen provided three innings of relief allowing only one run while striking out one.
The Musketeers will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon. Xavier will host Indiana at Hayden Field in an afternoon contest slated for a 3:00 pm start. XU senior Steve Sakosits (0-1, 4.68 ERA) will take the mound and will face the Hoosier's Chris Hervey (0-0, 3.18 ERA).
