XU Kicks Off LPGA International Xavier Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The LPGA International Xavier Invitational kicked off on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Daytona Beach.  The 6,225 yard Champions Course at the LPGA International proved to be a difficult test for Xavier, as the Musketeers found themselves in 11^th place (313, 321, 58-over) after 36 holes of play.

Sophomore Mary Beth McKenna opened the day with a three-over par 75, but admittedly ran out of gas on the back nine of her second 18 to card an 81, good enough for a tie at 28^th place (12-over).

Lamar's Therese Nillson fired the lowest first round score, an even-par 72.  However, rounds of 69 by her teammate Linda Persson and 70 by Coastal Carolina's Ann Maness would propel them both to the top of the leaderboard, respectively.

Coastal Carolina leads the Invite after rounds of 298 and 296, totaling 594 (+18).  Lamar sits in second place, twelve strokes behind.

Senior Diana Torry and freshman Rachel Levi finished the day two shots behind McKenna in a tie for 34^th place (14-over).  Junior Lindsay Cornell fired a 79 and 84 to end the day 19-over in a tie for 52^nd.  Freshman Audrey Fellmeth was a stroke behind in a tie for 54^th.

Xavier Individuals Erin Gore (Sr.) and Lindsay Steiner (So.) tied for 77^th place overall (176, +32), and Colette Ryan (Jr.) rounded out play for the Musketeers at 184, 40-over par in 79^th place.  Erin Gore withdrew from play for Sunday due to a back injury.

The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.  The forecast predicts drizzle in the early morning but a clear day following.
