Musketeers Come From Behind, Down Western Michigan 3-2

OXFORD, Ohio - The Xavier volleyball team wrapped up the 2007 regular season with a 3-2 (30-18, 24-30, 20-30, 30-27, 15-7) win over the Western Michigan Broncos Saturday afternoon in the A-10/MAC Challenge hosted by Miami (Ohio) University. Freshman Claire Paszkiewicz recorded new career highs in both assists (62) and digs (22) for her fifth double-double of the season.
Also for Xavier (24-10, 11-2 A-10), sophomore Hillary Otte tallied a new career-high 21 kills in the match and freshman Chelsea Campbell bested the career high in kills she set Friday night by logging 11 on the night, which went towards her .450 hitting percentage (11-2-20).
Senior Jenni Horvath notched her sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 19 digs while freshman Katie Russell did the same with 12 kills and 10 digs. Senior Jill Quayle tallied 16 kills on the night to go along with five total blocks. Quayle was the only Musketeer to earn All-Tournament team honors for the weekend.
Xavier took game one fairly easily after a 10-2 run put the Musketeers up by seven, 19-12. The Broncos were not able to score on consecutive possessions the rest of the frame and the Musketeers picked up the 30-18 victory.
In game two, WMU (21-12) took the early lead and never fell behind. There were four ties, with the final tie at 11-11 as Xavier would get no closer than to within three the rest of the way. Western Michigan tied the match with a game-two win, 30-24.
The Broncos used an impressive .419 hitting percentage to dominate game three. After the two squads were knotted at four-all, WMU went on a 11-6 run into a Xavier timeout. XU got to within three, 22-19, but Western Michigan closed the frame with an 8-1 run to pick up the game-three win, 30-20, and to go up two games to one.
WMU held a 23-18 advantage in game four before XU battled back using a 12-4 run to overtake the Bronco lead and even the match at two games apiece with a 30-27 fourth game victory.
In the tie-breaker, Xavier posted an incredible .500 hitting percentage versus Western Michigan's .091 as the Broncos had only two kills in the frame. XU built a 12-4 lead before winning 15-7 to claim the match, 3-2.
For Western Michigan, Michelle Moore had a match-high 24 kills and Caitlin Strimel got under a match-high 28 digs in the loss.
