CINCINNATI - The Xavier Musketeer men's basketball team received some well-deserved national recognition from the two major national polls released this afternoon. Xavier is ranked in both major polls this week, earning a ranking of 23rd in the Associated Press Poll and 25th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll for the week of November 26.
Xavier, 4-1 under fourth-year head coach Sean Miller, recorded an impressive 80-65 win over then No. 8 Indiana on Saturday in the championship game of the 2007 Chicago Invitational Challenge at Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Junior C.J. Anderson and senior Drew Lavender were named Co-MVPs of the 2007 Chicago Invitational Challenge. Senior Josh Duncan also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Xavier is back in the Associated Press "Top 25" for the first time since the week of December 4, 2006, last season. The week after earning the ranking last season XU beat Detroit and then lost at Creighton, dropping out of the AP "Top 25" after that. XU has now been ranked in the AP "Top 25" at some point in eight of the last 12 seasons.
Xavier is back in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll "Top 25" for the first time since XU was ranked 14th in the post-NCAA Tournament poll following the 2004 NCAA "Elite Eight" run.
Xavier opens a season-long four-game homestand on Wednesday against Oakland at 7 p.m. at Cintas Center. In fact, six of Xavier's next seven games are at Cintas Center. Taking it one step further, XU plays eight of its next nine games in Cincinnati, including seven at Cintas Center and one at U.S. Bank Arena.
