PHILADELPHIA - In the final game of the series Xavier could not take advantage getting the first two runners on in the ninth and fell 8-7 to host Temple on Sunday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. Four Musketeers would record two hits on the afternoon and three errors by TU would keep XU in the game but 10 runners left on base by Xavier allowed the Owls to avoid the series sweep. The loss puts Xavier at 19-21 on the season and 12-3 in conference action. Temple improves to 13-24 overall and 5-10 in the A-10.
The Musketeers struck first with an RBI-groundout by Neil Lindgren that plated Adam Pasono. Pasono led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Temple responded with four unanswered runs over the next three innings to take the 4-1 lead before a three-run fifth by XU gave the Blue and White the lead.
The Owls would respond with two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth to reclaim the lead but only for an inning. Xavier would knot the score at 6-6 but it would be Temple's day as they again responded with two runs in the bottom half to take the lead for good.
Lindgren, Jordan Wolf, Adam Lipski and Drew Schmidt each had two hits on the afternoon, with Lindgren and Lipski driving in two runs. Pasono led the way with two runs scored and Lipski had the only stolen base for XU.
Michael Lucas suffered the loss as the junior went 4.0 innings and allowed six earned on seven hits with a walk. Mark Janszen allowed the other two TU runs over his three innings of work before giving way to Kyle Cowden, who closed out the eighth inning unscathed.
Xavier will have tomorrow off before traveling to crosstown rival Cincinnati on Tuesday evening. The makeup game from a week ago will be under the lights at Schott Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm. Both starters are yet to be determined.
