Volleyball Notches 3-1 Win at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH - The Xavier volleyball team picked up another Atlantic 10 win over conference foe Duquesne Friday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center. XU won 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-20) to improve to a perfect 7-0 in A-10 play. Junior Kelly Ruth posted the Musketeers' only double-double of the night with a match-high tying 12 kills to go with a match-high 17 digs.
Also for the Musketeers, junior Lauren Kaminsky was one dig away from a double-double as she tallied 11 kills and nine digs. Sophomore Chelsea Campbell tied her career high with 10 kills in the contest while sophomore Shannon Voors added eight kills and three service aces.
Duquesne (15-9, 3-5 A-10) took the first set by a score of 25-22 but Xavier (14-8, 7-0 A-10) rallied to take the next three sets in relative ease. The Musketeers out-hit the Dukes .284 to .217 and XU recorded 57 kills to DU's 44. Xavier registered 10 services aces on the night, including five from senior Megan Hellmann, and seven team blocks.
For the Dukes, Jessica Artman had a match-high tying 12 kills in the match while Amy Palko has a team-high 16 digs. As a team, DU tallied 11 blocks, including two solo blocks and three assisted blocks from Amanda Humphrey.
The Musketeers will face their biggest challenge yet of the conference season as they head to Saint Louis for a Sunday afternoon match versus the No. 25 Saint Louis Billikens. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
