Women's Soccer Team Ends 2008 Season With A Loss

CINCINNATI --- The Xavier women’s soccer team closed the 2008 season with a 3-1 loss to Fordham on Sunday, November 2 at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. The Musketeers finished the season 1-16-2 overall and 0-9-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while Fordham heads to the A-10 Championship this week with records of 8-2-1 in the Atlantic 10 and 11-5-2 overall.
Fordham jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring two goals in less than seven minutes to open the match, and Xavier never recovered. Katie Sanchez scored at 3:57 and Kim Boulos added the second goal at 6:23.
Xavier remained scoreless until the 58th minute when senior Maggie O’Neal drilled a shot into the upper right of the goal. Fellow senior Sara Doutt crossed the ball to O’Neal and earned an assist on the play.
Fordham got an insurance goal four minutes after the XU goal. Michelle Ancelj scored on a header at 61:26.
The Rams outshot the Musketeers 21-8 on the afternoon.
