Miami Head Coach Charlie Coles
"This was hard-fought game. Two things, I think, were important. First, their [Xavier's] energy for about four minutes, with about seven minutes left in the game. Their energy for about four minutes threw us off. Second was their ability to get to the free throw line. They go to the basket. I've always thought that the team that's the most aggressive goes to the free throw line. We were almost afraid to lay it up on the basket."
On XU's Derrick Brown
"Derrick's a talented player. He had 23 points and he was 10 for 13 from the free throw line. He's proven he can play with the big boys. Anybody here want to talk him into going [to the NBA] early? Derrick Brown - I don't know if he's a David West - I think he'll play at the next level. What I like about him is that he's under control and very efficient.
On B.J. Raymond's three-pointer to give XU its first lead "When Raymond hit that three on us, we had no guys on him. They were looking at him, but they weren't on him. When the year's over, I'll bet you he'll be 40 percent for threes. He's just getting warmed up."
Miami Players
Michael Bramos
"I don't think they got a lot out of their initial plays. But they got to the foul line."
"Xavier just came off that Puerto Rico tournament, but I honestly think we tested them better than any of those three teams."
Kenny Hayes
"I thought we had energy most of the game. But it's tough on the road when he home team has momentum."
Tyler Dierkers
"Our breakdowns [on defense] and their hitting the offensive glass led to their comeback. We were able to take their stuff away. Their free throws and offensive rebounding did us in."
"We're going to play anyone, anywhere. I think it's a credit to our team. If we were able to get a couple of non-conference wins, that would help us at [NCAA] tournament selection time."
Xavier Players
On playing the point guard position "It was good, I guess. It's something I feel seniors and leaders do. People have to step up. Tonight I stepped in at the point guard position and did what I had to do."
On his second-half three-pointer to give XU the lead. "It felt like the weight of the gym was lifted off my shoulders."
"Playing against Miami four times [during his career], I knew how the game was going to go. They took a little momentum into halftime with that deep three by [Michael] Bramos. But I think with four minutes left to go in the game, if it's winning time, it's winning time."
"The oldest players on the team have to lead the team. Our team never quits."
"It felt good to actually dunk a ball. It's been awhile. You usually see me jump a little higher."
Xavier Head Coach Sean Miller
"I thought tonight was our best win of the season. We played a great team with two outstanding players, Mike Bramos and Kenny Hayes. They can play anywhere in the country. B.J. Raymond took over and played point for the first time in his career. Derrick Brown played his best game ever here at Xavier. It was B.J., Derrick, and C.J. [Anderson] in the second half. We defended and we rebounded, and those are two things we are good at."
"As a team, in particular in the second half, and with our older guys, our toughness showed. Thirty-eight free throws; 12 offensive rebounds and getting to the foul line are really important to our team. Defense can take you so far, but nonetheless we need a little more help on offense, in shooting and free throws."
"This season we've had the ability to play the whole game every game."
