Post Game Quotes
Butler Head Coach Brad Stevens
“I’m excited about the way our team played. I thought our guys played with pretty much poise. I thought Matt [Howard] was unbelievable tonight. He played so hard on every possession.”
“This is our sixth road game. As raucous and as great an environment as this is, it was not completely unfamiliar to us. You’ve got to win on the road if you want to play for something special. Both teams played physical the entire game. They [Xavier] are tough, they get to the basket. [Derrick] Brown went 3-for-5 [on three-pointers]. He’s shooting 60 percent for December.”

“We were not surprised. Maybe we didn’t give as good an effort as we could have. Butler did a really good job defending us inside. We’re not going to get down on ourselves. Butler’s a very good team. We’ve got to get our swagger back like we did earlier in the season.”
B.J. Raymond
“They [Butler] move the ball really well. They’re a really well-coached team. A season is like a book. You write your season like chapters. And some chapters are a lesson learned. We always try to get better from day one. Teams are finding out our weaknesses and we’ve got to make our weaknesses better.”
Xavier Head Coach Sean Miller
“Great college basketball game. Butler did what they do better than we did what we do. The fact that their freshmen and sophomores executed in our arena was phenomenal. We lost to an excellent basketball team tonight.”
“Gordon Hayward, I cannot believe how good of a player he is for a freshman. Couple him with Matt Howard, a relentless warrior. Butler did an outstanding job of getting him the ball. He asserted his will on us. Will Veasley, who’s not one of their best three-point shooters, went 4-for-5. That’s what great teams have, and Butler is a great team.”
“I thought Kenny Frease played an exceptional game. His improvement throughout the year will define us. When he played [tonight], he did a very good job. Jason Love has been a constant for us. But tonight was not his night.”
“I love our players. They played hard. We’re 9-2 and we’ve got to go 10-2. I’m more concerned with us getting better.”
