Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Iowa State

AMES, Iowa - The Xavier volleyball team dropped its final match of the Iowa State Tournament as host Iowa State took the contest, 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 16-25). Junior Lauren Kaminsky led the Musketeers with a match-high 13 kills. Xavier falls to 5-4 for the season while Iowa State improves to 8-3 on the year.
Also for the Musketeers, sophomore Claire Paszkiewicz set 17 assists while senior Megan Hellmann led the team in digs with eight.
Iowa State was able to control a majority of the match as there were six tied scores and only two lead changes in the entire contest. The Cyclones posted an incredible .385 hitting percentage and out-blocked Xavier 9-4.
The Cyclones quickly took the 11-5 lead in the first set, capped off by a kill from Rachel Hockaday. ISU used a 6-1 run to go up 18-8 and XU would not get any closer than to within five after a a 6-0 run to mark the score at 23-17. Iowa State was able to close out the set, 25-18, to take the one-set lead.
Xavier kept the second set close, tying the frame at 10-all. But a 7-1 Cyclone run put the set out of reach for the Musketeers and ISU finished off the frame with the 25-17 win after back-to-back XU attacking errors.
The Musketeers tried to battle in the third set but attacking errors would prove to be fatal. After consecutive Xavier attack errors gave Iowa State the 10-4 advantage, ISU never lookd back. The Cyclones ran away with the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
Xavier returns home this coming weekend as it is set to welcom the 13th-ranked Middle Tennesse Blue Raiders to Cintas Center on Friday, Sept. 19. First serve is set for 7 pm.
