Xavier (5-6) fell behind early in the first set but used a quick 4-0 spurt to take over the lead at 6-4. There were a total of 15 ties and eight lead changes in the frame and the two squads found themselves knotted at 22 apiece after a Green Wave kill. XU called timeout to take a minute to talk it over but out of the break, TU notched three straight points to take the game, 25-22.
Tulane (7-4) and Xavier kept the second set close throughout with neither team taking more than a five-point lead when the Green Wave held the 20-15 advantage. After a Musketeer timeout, XU rattled off five unanswered point to pull the two squads even at 20-all and TU took a minute to regroup. Xavier held set-point twice, last at 25-24 but, like the first set, Tulane managed to string together three straight points to take the second frame, 27-25.
The third game was never in question as there was only one tie at 1-1 and the Green Wave held the advantage from there out. Tulane jumped out to an early 13-6 but Xavier rallied and pulled to within three, 13-10. The Green Wave then stretched it's lead to seven after a 7-3 run. TU took the third set, 25-18, and the match 3-0.
Tulane was led by Bridget Wells with a match-high 16 kills and Jenn Miller with a match-high 14 digs.
