Musketeers Fall On Senior Day

CINCINNATI – The Xavier women’s soccer team closed out the 2009 home season with a 4-0 loss to Atlantic 10 foe, Rhode Island Sunday at the Xavier Soccer complex. The six Xavier seniors were honored before the match in the annual senior day ceremony. Senior Brittany Green finished out a strong offensive weekend with a team-best four shots against the Rams.
The Rams scored all four goals in the first half including a penalty kick score by forward Mary Kate Krol. Two of the Rams’ goals came off deflections by the XU defense.
Senior goalkeeper Kelly Farrell posted two saves in 45 minutes of action, while Jenny Rosen finished out the second frame for the Musketeers. Rams goalkeeper Tara Murphy posted seven saves in 90 minutes.
The Musketeers out-shot the Rams 16-12 and led the Rams in shots on goal 7-6.
The Musketeers fall to 3-14-1 overall and 2-7-1 in the conference with the loss while the Rams improve to 5-11-1 overall and 3-6-0 in the A-10. Xavier will face rival Dayton in the season finale Saturday, October 31 for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
