No. 14 Xavier (21-4, 9-2 Atlantic 10) broke a two-game losing streak by defeating Fordham (3-19, 1-9 A-10), 88-53. The win was the sixth in a row for the Musketeers over Fordham. The Musketeers now lead their all-time series with the Rams 18-3. Xavier is 16-1 against Fordham since the two schools both joined the Atlantic 10 conference to start the 1995-1996 season. Six Musketeers scored in double figures, with Brad Redford leading the Musketeers with 15 off the bench. B. J. Raymond contributed 14 points, Dante Jackson added 13 points, Derrick Brown 12, Jason Love 11, and Jamel McLean 10. Mike Moore led Fordham with a "double-double", 24 points and 10 rebounds, the first "double-double" of his career.
The Musketeers have won 22 straight Atlantic 10 Conference games at home (8-0, 2006-07; 8-0, 2007-08; and 6-0, 2008-09). Xavier is now 118-17 (.874) at home during its nine seasons at Cintas Center, and 60-10 (.857) against Atlantic 10 competition in its on-campus home arena.
Career/Season Highs
Xavier's 88 points were a season high. XU scored 84 in its first win at Fordham (01-11-09).
The Musketeers drained a season-high 14 three-point field goals on 14-27 shooting (.519). Xavier's previous high of 13 came in its 81-74 win at Cintas Center over Auburn (12-3-08).
Xavier went 12 of 13 from the foul line. Its .923 free-throw percentage set a season high. The previous high was .857 (12-14) against Massachusetts.
Brad Redford tied career highs in scoring and three-point field goals with 15 and five, respectively. He also reached those highs against Robert Morris (12-31-08). Redford has made 43 field goals this season, with 40 coming from beyond the three-point arc.
Derrick Brown tied his career high with five assists. He has dished out five assists on three other occasions.
Jamel McLean blocked four shots, a new Xavier career high. McLean had three blocks in two other games.
Six Musketeers scored in double figures. The last time XU had six scorers in double figures was earlier this season at Fordham (1-11-09).
Fordham's Mike Moore's 24 points and 10 rebounds were both career highs.
Runs
Leading 24-22 with 7:51 remaining in the first half, Xavier went on a 12-2 tear to take a 36-24 lead at the 3:21 mark. Derrick Brown paced the Musketeers with five points during the run.
The Musketeers led 42-29 at half and opened the second half with a 10-2 run to go up 52-31 at the 17:37 mark. Jason Love led XU with five points in the run.
Up Next: Xavier travels to Charlotte to play the 49ers on Thursday, February 19, at 7:00 p.m. XU has never lost to Charlotte in the six games all time between the schools. Thursday night's game will be the second game this season between the Musketeers and the 49ers. On January 28 Xavier beat Charlotte 69-47 at Cintas Center. Xavier's B. J. Raymond led all scorers with 23 points. It was the second of four straight games in which Raymond scored more than 20 points. Kenny Frease also contributed a career-high 17 points. The Musketeers out-rebounded Charlotte 48-28 with Derrick Brown grabbing 11 and B. J. Raymond 10 for the second "double-double" of his career. The Musketeers' 48 rebounds were most they have pulled down this season; they also pulled down 48 in their win at Rhode Island on January 15. Xavier's defense held the 49ers to just 30.9 percent shooting from the field.
