Xavier Battled Ball State On Monday Night In Exhibition Tuneup

The Xavier women's soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 2-1 exhibition game loss to Ball State on Monday night at the Xavier University Soccer Complex. Xavier opens the 2009 regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Toledo.
The two teams battled to a scoreless deadlock at halftime. Ball State broke the tie at the 51:12 mark on a goal from Missy Gordon and added an insurance goal and what proved to be the deciding goal when Paige Stroinski found the back of the net at 61:47.
XU continued to battle and avoided the shutout when redshirt freshman Leslie Boersma served up a corner kick that sophomore Cathy Della Lucia deflected toward a waiting senior Brittany Green, who scored at 88:45. Boersma and Della Lucia each earned assists on the play.
