PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Xavier women's soccer team opened its first Atlantic 10 road trip of the 2010 season with a 1-0 loss at the hands of Saint Joseph's Friday night. With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 6-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the A-10 while the Hawks improved to 5-8-0 overall and an even 2-2-0 in the conference.
"It was a tale of two halves for us," said Xavier head coach Woody Sherwood. "Unfortunately, we could not overcome a poor first half. I give Saint Joe's a lot of credit, they did a nice job and put us under a lot of pressure."
Lauren Sawyer scored the game's lone goal in the 18th minute when she got a shot past XU starting goalkeeper sophomore Jennifer Perri. Perri finished the match with two saves in 45 minutes of work.
Offensively, the Musketeers couldn't find a rhythm as they only managed three shots overall. Leslie Twehues, Carly Wenzel, and Leslie Boersma each earned a shot on the day. Saint Joe's, however, posted 12 shots on the night but only managed four shots on goal.
The Musketeers will look to rebound on Sunday as they face Temple at 1p.m.
