CINCINNATI -- The Xavier women's soccer team fell to 5-6-0 overall and an even 1-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference after a 1-0 loss to Fordham Sunday afternoon at the XU Soccer Complex. The Rams out-shot the Musketeers 20-10 in the match but only found the back of the net once.
“Today was some of the most disappointing soccer we have played this season," said XU head coach Woody Sherwood. "It’s tough playing Friday-Sunday, but everyone else in the conference has to do it as well. We need to bring more mental toughness to the Sunday games in order to have the success we know we are capable of having. We are excited to have another home stand next weekend and will be working hard this week to prepare”
Fordham forward Mary Solimine took advantage of a Mariella Romano pass to give the Rams the 1-0 lead in the 70th minute. The Rams improved to 5-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Atlantic 10 with the win.
Xavier goalkeeper Jennifer Perri earned four saves in the first half. Her second half replacement, senior Jenny Rosen, earned one save and allowed the lone goal of the match.
Fordham goalkeeper Sarah Zieman pulled down seven saves on the day.
The Musketeers were led in shots by sophomore Leslie Boersma with three. Leslie Twehues and Lauren Heap were second with two goals each. Annie Worden led the Rams with five shots on the day.
The Musketeers return to action Friday, October 8, as they host UMass in A-10 action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
