CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Junior Jessica Brooks posted her second straight multi-goal game as the Xavier women's soccer team earned its fourth win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Western Carolina Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Musketeers improved to 4-3-0 on the season while the Catamounts fell to 2-4-0 on the year.
"Today was some of the most attractive soccer we have played," said head coach Woody Sherwoon. "We switched the ball well today and were able to get into the final third often. We still need to end up with more final balls that we gets shots from though."
Brooks' first goal came in the 60th minute when she nailed a short shot in front of the goal.
The Catamounts equalized in the 63rd minute when Katie Salmons drove home a Laura Greb corner kick.
The Musketeers rallied in the 68th minute when Brooks finished a Leslie Boersma pass for the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Perri earned a pair of saves in 90 minutes of action while her counterpart, WCU's Caitlin Williams totaled one save while her team earned three.
The Musketeers out-shot the Catamounts 10-6 with Brooks and Leslie Twehues led the way with three.
With the win, the Musketeers earned at least a share of first place at the Catamount Classic and eclipsed last season's win total in just seven games. The win also marked the team's second multi-game win streak of the season.
The Musketeers will be looking for their third straight victory Friday, September 17 as they travel to Evansville for a 5 p.m. contest before hosting cross-town rival Cincinnati Sunday, September 19. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Xavier Soccer Complex.
