Musketeers Finish Day One in Seventh

MORAGA, Calif. - The Xavier men's golf team finished the first day of competition at the St. Mary's Invitational in seventh place. Senior Sebastian MacLean leads the team, with a seventh place finish after two rounds of play.
The Musketeers shot a team score of 597 (+21), two shots back from Nevada, who sits in sixth. Oregon is in the lead heading into the final 18 with a team score of 9-under-par 567.
MacLean fired a 2-under-par 70 in the first round, behind five birdies and three bogeys. The senior finished the last four holes of the back nine 2-under-par. In the second round, MacLean carded a two over par 74 on the heals of three bogeys and one birdie.
Freshman Korey Ward and senior Chris Burger ended the day in a tie for 34th with a two-round total of 7-over-par 151. Ward carded five birdies on the day, shooting a 3-over-par 75 and 4-over-par 76. Burger finished the first 18 at 7-over-par 79 before turning things around in the second round, shooting an even-par 72 behind four birdies.
Senior Nick Helser came away with a 10-over-par 154 total after rounds of 76-78. Junior Aaron Siekmann sits in 54th with a 12-over-par 156 (76-80).
