CINCINNATI The Xavier volleyball team swept the La Salle Explorers (25-20, 25-15, 26-24) Saturday afternoon at Cintas Center. Junior Kaleigh Rougraff led the Musketeers with 12 kills.
Rougraff posted a .320 hitting percentage (12-4-25) to go with a service ace, an assist and three digs. Red-shirt sophomore Alex Smith tallied a .375 hitting percentage (7-1-16), seven digs and three assisted blocks. Junior Stephanie Vorherr got under 25 digs, while freshman Aubree Smith recorded 30 assists to go with her four kills, four digs and two assisted blocks.
Freshman Kelly Westerkamp got her first career starting nod and added one kills a career-high five digs.
With the win, the Musketeers move to 10-5 on the season and a spotless 2-0 in conference play, while the Explorers drop to 3-15 and 0-2. Xavier outhit La Salle .259 to .076, notching 43 kills as a team to La Salle's 28. Xavier has now won 31 straight matches against La Salle.
The Explorers were led by Kelly Scanlon who posted a match-high 14 kills. Scanlon and Breanna Mazalewski got under 13 digs, while Kourtney Clark added 27 assists.
